Hello Everyone! We are half way through Number the Stars and I gotta say, we are loving it! Students are engaged with the story line and reacting appropriately to events as they unfold. We are still discussing the impact that setting has on the story line along with proper usage of verbs in our writing. Student blogs are coming along very nicely! We will be posting a new blog post on Thursday of this week. Be sure to ask your student to show you their blog! We have a lot of events coming up so check out the attachments below this message. As always please email me ([email protected]) with any questions or comments! Important Dates
Hello everyone! Thank you for coming out to 6th Grade Parent Night! I have posted the presentation for your review below. In the upcoming weeks ahead, we will continue to read Number the Stars with a focus on craft and structure (aka author's purpose). Here are some helpful craft and structure related questions to ask your student: (best asked after they reread the assigned chapter)
B. cause and effect C. definition and description D. compare and contrast
As mentioned during Parent Night, we will continue to compose, edit, post and publish blog posts related to our novels. RTI groups have begun meeting on Monday and Friday each week from 2:00 until 2:30. If your student is not in RTI, they will be meeting in Mr. Acosta's room. This is a fantastic time to read a book, complete homework, or catch up on assignments or missing work. Upcoming Events 9.16 Interim Reports Go Home (They do not need to be signed and returned.) 9.19 NO SCHOOL! 9.21 SAC Meeting 9.30 Walk-a-Thon Kickoff As always, please email me with any questions or concerns! ([email protected]) Have a FANTASTIC three day weekend! Greetings everyone! Did you know our school encourages healthy families through the Morning Mile? Our tradition will continue starting September 12 at 7:30 am. This year we will be using the new track! There is a PDF below with more information. Our first novel has come to an end. We will be reading Number the Stars next. I will be introducing the concepts of WWII in class. Please discourage your students from researching these evens on their own. We are providing enough background to understand the events in the story without going into too much detail. If you have any questions at all please email me any time ([email protected]). Student pictures are being done on September 16th. Order forms are coming home on the 9th. Look for a reminder flyer to come home on September 15th. Important Dates:
Thank you everyone for making my birthday so special! I've never been so loved on by students before! I am amazed by the generosity of my students and their parents.
Have a great day everyone! We are halfway through our first novel The Kid Who Ran for President! I am so proud of the hard work I am seeing in each student. We have practiced identifying character traits, retelling the sequence of events in a story, and using context clues to determine the meaning of a word in our text. Each student has created a blog that will be used in class. The goal of the blog is to create an open dialogue between student, teacher, and classmate in a technology friendly forum. These blogs are only to be used for school related discussions. They are password protected and I have complete access to everything they post. I moderate the blogs as well as check their posts weekly. Please ask your student to show them your blog, I am very proud of the work they put into them so far! I am using the Weebly student platform, which is the same platform I use for this website as well.
I will continue to post homework on my website, so you can check here if your student forgot to write it down. In addition to the HW they write in their planner, it is understood that reading is required each night. The suggested amount of time is 20-30 minutes, and they choose what they want to read. Upcoming Dates To Remember: Fall Fundraiser going home on 8.29.16. Labor Day: No School on 9.5.16 Curriculum Night is on 9.15.16 from 5:30-6:30. Interim Reports are issued on 9.16.16 Student Holiday (no school) on 9.19.16 We had a wonderful turnout yesterday for our 2016-2017 Open House! Mr. Zgonc, Mr. Acosta and myself appreciate you taking the time to meet with us. We know how busy you all are! Please plan to attend the September 15 Curriculum Night. We will be addressing FSA testing info, content specific curriculum, and answering general questions about what we teach and how we do it. I have attached a PDF version of our presentation. As always, if you have any questions, email any one of us!
As we finish out the first week of school, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for being so welcoming! Manatee is a great school to be at, and I am overwhelmed with the kindness and generosity I have received!
